The Gulu Methodist Partnership Inc (GMPI) began as a mission ministry of the Hindman United Methodist Church (HUMC) to make a major impact on the Gulu District of the Methodist Church, assisting them to make disciples in their churches and communities.
Bishop James R. King Jr. introduced the local churches of the Kentucky Annual Conference to the plight of Northern Uganda Methodist Churches and invited Kentucky churches to get involved. HUMC responded! They studied the devastation that was left in Northern Uganda in the wake of the two decades long civil war between the LRA rebel army and government forces. HUMC developed a heart for the Gulu District, growing stronger after hosting the Hope for African Children’s Choir; many of the children were orphans from Gulu.
HUMC formed a relationship with Gulu District Superintendent (DS), David Ntogohnya, and began assisting the Gulu District Methodist Churches as the DS directed. This relationship grow into a partnership. Before long, other churches and individuals joined in the mission. From the beginning, it was the vision of HUMC that one day GMPI would become an independent Federal 5O1c3 non-profit mission. In 2011, the vision was realized, and GMPI formed a Board of Directors (BOD) that included a medical doctor, a circuit court judge, pastors, school educators and administrators, an accountant, and business people. Working together the BOD formed the Gulu Methodist Partnership Inc (GMPI). The Articles of Incorporation were filed with the Commonwealth of Kentucky in 2011 and GMPI applied for a Federal 501c3 status which was issued in 2012.
Since those early beginnings, GMPI has grown in its mission reach. It now includes five major foci:
1) Pastor Support and Education
2) Support of Local Church Ministries
3) CHILDERO Orphan Education and Discipleship
4) Property Purchases and Construction
5) Well and Pump Repairs and Training.
